Match Report: Scorchers v Renegades, BBL 2014-15, WACA Ground, Perth; 26th December 2014.
After winning the toss Scorchers decided to bat first and unlike their previous game batsmen didn’t disappoint this time. With a 103 runs opening partnership between Michael Klinger, 105 & Marcus Harris, 53 in 12 overs Scorchers were already on the winning side. After setting the target of 192 runs they had the psychological edge over Melbourne who was under pressure of chasing a mammoth target.
The highlight of the match was Klinger’s century. With 60 ball 105* runs Klinger singlehandedly led the team towards one of the highest totals in the shortest format. Klinger’s century is packed with boundaries; with 7 fours & 4 sixes he reached the triple figure with a six on the last ball of the innings.
A bit sedated in the beginning Klinger caught up the pace by 14th over. He scored 30 runs in the first 26 balls he faced while he took just 34 deliveries to score the remaining 75 runs. In just a single over of Dwayne Bravo he hit 20 runs.
First Harris and then Carberry supported him on the other side. Harris & Klinger gave a solid start to Scorchers, while Harris got out immediately after scoring his half century Klinger remained calm & composed. Though the broken partnership slowed down the pace a bit but he soon overcame it with a bang. He was rightly supported by Carberry at the other end w
ho made sure to rotate the strike. Melbourne was shaky from the beginning in their chase of oodles of runs. They were required to score at 9 RPO and in their strive to achieve so, the batsmen got out by playing expensive strokes. Wickets fell in quick succession with none of the player taking the responsibility & leading the game forward.
Only Callum Ferguson, 39 & Andre Russel, 43 scored notable runs while none other player manage to score more than 15 runs. Scorchers were impressive with the ball too as they restricted Melbourne to 157 runs with 9 wickets down. Behrendroff, AC Agar & AJ Tye took 2,2 wickets each.
